Do I need to exercise with weight loss medicine?

DWQA QuestionsDo I need to exercise with weight loss medicine?

After I completed my studies and started working, I started putting on weight. My weight was constant for 5 years during college, and that too when I was not doing any extra physical activity like gym or sports. Just my routine college and I never put on weight. But in last 4 years of working I have gained 10 kgs of weight.

I have got tested and I am not suffering from thyroid (which I thought could be a reason for weight gain). Now I am thinking to start with weight loss medication to lose some extra kilos. But neither I have time to go to gym nor I enjoy exercising. My job is also of sitting in one place whole day and doesn’t need much moving around.

Can weight loss medication reduce weight without exercising? Do I need to diet along with medicines? Can you suggest some medicine with which I will not have to exercise or diet.

Dear Anonymous, No medicine, no matter what they claim can substitute exercise and dieting for effective weight loss. They are misleading you if they claim to do so. During college life, we have an active lifestyle. Going out with friends, playing in college, moving in college etc. keeps our metabolism going and body active, which keeps our weight constant, even if we are not going to gym or doing any extra exercising. When we get into job, life becomes stressful and our active lifestyle becomes dull as most jobs these days don’t need much of physical activity, which leads to weight gain. Same seems to be your case, which has lead to weight gain. Basic principle of weight loss is, intake of calories in the body needs to be less than total calories burnt by body. When burnt calories are more, then only body will use stored energy in form of fat and will lose weight. Weight loss medicines like Medohar Vati or Homeopathic formula for weight loss, works on stimulating metabolism of body so that body burns more calories, than normally what they do. Others also works on controlling appetite to restrict the calories intake. But medication can only complement exercising and dieting and can not replace it. So for best and quick results for weight loss along with medication follow a strict diet and exercise regime. Since you don’t have time to go to gym, then you can incorporate small changes in your lifestyle, so that body’s metabolism keeps burning calories. Taking stairs, parking car as far from office and home as possible, taking light meal in small portions and avoiding eating anything 4 hours before going to sleep, going for evening walk etc. along with medicines can give you best results.
